Purpose, a real meaning or just a fashion statement?

Originally, travelling with a purpose meant more than just getting around; it meant having a clear purpose behind the trip: to learn, to contribute, to grow, to discover. But with the rise of sustainable tourism, volunteering and life-changing experiences, the term has been co-opted by marketing and, in some cases, turned into an empty slogan.

It now seems that if you’re not travelling to change the world, find your ‘true self’ or do something extraordinary, then your trip is meaningless. But what if someone’s purpose is simply to relax, unwind or get lost in a place with no expectations other than to enjoy? Does that make it any less valid?

Perhaps it’s time to redefine what it means to travel with purpose. It shouldn’t be an imposed concept but something personal. It could be learning a language, reconnecting with a part of yourself, meeting new people or simply embracing the uncertainty of the journey. The purpose doesn’t always have to be grand or socially acceptable; it just has to make sense to the traveller.

Rather than following trends, perhaps the real challenge is to reclaim authenticity in the way we travel. What do you think? 😊
